Schiller Monument

Park on the Schillerhöhe (Map)

The Schiller Monument is situated in the park on the Schillerhöhe, across from the Schiller National Museum. The foundation stone was laid on Schiller's 100th birthday in 1859. The statue, designed by sculptor Ernst Friedrich Rau, was cast in ore at the Pelargus studio. The people of Marbach had been trying to get it done for more than forty years, but it could not be dedicated until 1876 after Emperor Wilhelm I ordered 32 hundredweight of bronze from French cannons to be supplied so it could be cast.
