Burgplatz / Oberer Torturm (castle square / upper gate tower)

Marktstraße 1 (Map)

The castle square with the walls of Marbach's former town castle is the oldest part of Marbach. Several years of excavations carried out by the Landesdenkmalamt (state office for historical monuments) have offered valuable clues to Marbach’s mediaeval history. The newly designed castle square was officially opened at the Bürgerfest (town festival) in 1989.

The Obere Torturm or upper gate tower is the former town gate leading east. It is the only one of the three original tower gates in the historical Old Town that is still standing, and nowadays it is used as a museum.
