Historical town wall

The first town wall in Marbach appears to have been built shortly after the town was founded at the end of the 12th century. In the 13th century, it was extended to include a bailey, external walls and a moat, the latter being located on the unprotected southern and eastern sides. Renovations and perhaps additions were made in the Late Middle Ages. While the internal walls have been almost completely preserved – with the exception of the east-facing wall – only a few remnants and round tower fragments of the external walls remain.
